i love flowers, especially gorgeous fabric flowers that can spruce up any outfit. with this tutorial from Michonne over at 100 Layer Cake you can make them as well! you've seen them in j.crew, emerson made, etsy... it's time to pick up that needle and re-vamp your old t-shirts.

heart cupcake toppers.

with valentines jut around the corner, i've been looking for simple and fun crafts to take on. the cupcake craze is contagious - so why not add a little flair with these adorable toppers. the following tutorial was posted on craftzine by lish dorset. i'm going to go ahead and post a summary of it here.

use a large hole puncher to get the desired circles, use different color cardstock - pink, creme, white, red; simply tape the circle to the back of a toothpick. if you are wanting to make it double sided, use a flatter toothpick to make it easier, glue the circles together (or use double sided tape, whichever is available). you can purchase heart stickers at your local craft store, or buy the stickers shown above from martha stewart's crafts. when finished, add to your cupcakes to make them picture perfect for your valentine.

paper doily garland

i stumbled upon this tutorial via dandee and i am entirely obsessed and am going to make dozens to use for a party someday. the tutorial is from project wedding; it is very simple and straightforward. you must have basic knowledge of a sewing machine (turning it on basically). below is the tutorial, all images and text taken from project wedding.

supplies you'll need
1. doilies, assorted sizes: paper doilies come in a variety of diameters, the larger the diameter the easier it will be to align each doily half while sewing the garland. for added variation, try alternating between small and large sizes. use the size of the doilies to estimate how many you'll need for the desired length of your garland. since we'll be cutting them in half, one doily will create twice the diameter in garland length.
2. double fold bias tape
3. thread to match bias tape
4. scissors or paper cutter
5. sewing machine

directions:
1. cut doilies in half: you can fold one in half first to determine the center, and then use it as a guide for cutting the others.
2. prepare to sew: if you've purchased bias tape, iron out any creases in the bias tape resulting from it's packaging. pinning doilies in place prior to sewing is an option, however I found it easiest and most efficient to position each doily while sewing.
3. sew the garland: sandwich the doily halves between the fold of the bias tape, placing them end to end, and carefully sew along the edge of the bias tape.

* you can find paper doilies at your local craft store, or online (ebay).

hello-hello! well, i've decided to go ahead and start a blog dedicated solely to crafts, arts, and design (in general). here i will be posting inspirational photographs and links for all of you craft junkies out there. personally, crafting helps me keep my sanity. i've always loved making things, creating. a couple of years back i started making jewelry - i wanted to start something that was away from the computer. since then, i've done trade shows, and business with boutiques, it feels great being able to say "i made that!" and see others taking joy in your creations. crafting doesn't need to be for profit, i enjoy making decorations for get togethers, or presents for friends. i'm an avid blog reader, as well as martha stewart cult member. i'm currently in the process of creating my own craft room (i'll be posting the progress gradually). so, if you're interested in expanding your craft savviness, follow this blog - i promise you won't be disappointed.
